BI Rate Fixed 6.5%, Bank of Confessing Relief
Bank Indonesia (BI) continue to maintain the interest rate or BI rate at 6.5% level. This is the sixth time the Board of Governors Meeting (RDG) BI decided not to change the BI rate.
Meeting of the Board of Governors (RDG) rate, rate rise was still comfortable enough to keep the 2010 inflation target at the level of 5% plus minus 1%. Although this year's inflation rate in the forecast again increased.
Bank Indonesia (BI) is also considered, the level of 6.5% is conducive to strengthening economic recovery efforts. Including maintaining financial stability and promote banking intermediation.
In fact, Bank Indonesia has room to cut the BI rate. You see, the annual inflation in January 2010 was still low, of 3.72%. However, Bank Indonesia's policy is forward looking, said the Acting Governor of BI Nasution Nasution.
The bankers claim relief with Bank Indonesia's decision to maintain rates. One reason is, the rates are too low will cause capital flight, said Director of MSME and Bank BNI Syariah Ahmad Baiquini.
Finance Director of Bank Rakyat Indonesia (BRI) Sudaryanto Sudargo added, 6.5% benchmark interest rate is a comfortable level for banks. Because, savings bank interest rate that reached the BI rate, quite accepted by the customer.
BRI provides current savings rate between 6.7% -7%. If we were down 25 basis points, we could lose Rp 3 trillion to Rp 6 trillion per day.
Step by Bank Indonesia to maintain the BI rate also give space more freely to banks cut mortgage interest. We still could have sent down in stages, including through measures of efficiency, said Ahmad.
Data collected from the Money Market Information Center as of February 3, 2010 shows, the average credit interest rate was 12.83% rupiah. Working capital loan interest of 14.76%, 14.84% investment credit, and consumer credit interest 15.99%. Meanwhile, the average bank deposit rate is only 6.7%.
We hope the decline in mortgage interest can be proportional to the reduction in savings rates, said Deputy Governor of Bank Indonesia Muliaman D. Hadad. However, it is unclear exactly what Bank Indonesia's efforts to encourage the reduction in mortgage interest.
Previously, Bank Indonesia had promised it benchmarks or reference to the Bank not casually enter the components that make expensive cost of funds. Step it up to now there has been no realization.
To be sure, the difference between lending and deposit rates are still wide, which is approximately 6.08%. While credit growth is still low. In 2009 credit growth is only 10%.

In addition, recently began to many customers who chose to use foreign broker, or choose arrange insurance directly to the insurance company. So the broker opportunities targeting the corporate market more difficult, like it or not, is forced to enter the retail market, said Wunwun.
The advantage to play in the retail market seemingly obvious in times of crisis yesterday. When the corporate market losses, the retail market just to survive, even grow. Because, in a crisis condition of the community is more interested in protecting themselves through insurance.
Unlike the Proteksindo, PT Sedana Pacific preferred target survive the corporate sector. The real sector began to recover and infrastructure projects that began running, a reason to stay Sedana targeting the corporate sector.
Benny Hapsoro, Director Sedana, acknowledged the competition in this sector closely, especially in property insurance. Fortunately, not glancing Sedana products, we chose to play in the products that have not played many companies, such as the insurance of oil, added Benny.
